HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 

The HLTAID009 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course we deliver is highly practical and focused on developing skills you can put into practice in real emergency scenarios. This course provides the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Certain workplaces may require additional or specialised training, including childcare and high-risk environments. If you are unsure whether the training product is right for you, please contact us.

Course Durations

Training and theory assessment may be completed either in a classroom environment or online.

 

Consideration is given to previous skills, knowledge and experience for students refreshing an existing or equivalent certificate.

 

Timings below are approximate and will vary depending on the number of students and experience.

Online Training 

 

Detailed e-Learning (2 hours) + Face to Face assessment (45 min refresher | 60 min new)

Classroom Training

 

Face to Face training and assessment (3 hours)

 

Training and assessment can be adjusted to account for specific workplace requirements and the existing skills and knowledge of the students.

Course Requirements

Successful completion of this course requires participants to have the physical ability to respond to an emergency situation where they need to maintain breathing and circulation in an adult, child or infant following cardiac arrest.

 

This includes the requirement for all participants to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

 

Foundation skills are the underpinning communication skills required for participation in the workplace, the community and in adult education and training.

• Learning – to learn to provide cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in an emergency.

• Reading – to use a defibrillator (AED).

• Writing – to complete documentation such as reports/risk assessments.

• Oral communication – to call the ambulance and provide a handover.

• Numeracy – to count the number of compressions and breaths.

• Digital literacy – to access and navigate online learning environments (where applicable).

 

All training and assessment materials and equipment will be supplied throughout the course.

 

Students will need to bring a blue or black pen and wear comfortable, casual clothing. If you are concerned about any of these requirements please contact us prior to enrolling into the course.

Certificate Renewal Requirements

The ARC recommends that refresher training in CPR should be carried out annually. Ask your employer about their currency expectations.

Assessment Activities

Performance tasks and Practical scenarios: 

  • Perform CPR on an infant

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED)

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. The student must successfully complete all assessment questions
